Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT) Conference

10th Annual International Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT)® Conference and Training

PRT conference is in town!

What are 5 Pivotal Responses?

5 Pivotal Responses (behavior) include motivation, responsivity to multiple cues, self-management, self-initiations, and empathy. Once a child or client makes a meaningful improvement in these areas, this will spark the development of other domains.
PRT is all about naturalistic play-based treatment. It also heavily focused on the child’s vocal speech development. When antecedent stimuli(instruction) were followed by a child’s response(verbalization), this will be reinforced in the most natural way. For example, during playtime, if a child requests a toy by saying “To..”, he or she will have an opportunity to play with that toy, which is a natural reinforcement for verbal behavior. Know that the attempt (approximation) should be acknowledged at first and gradually shaped into the whole word with accuracy.  The attempt should be reinforced-
PRT has emerged from the Natural Language Paradigm(NLP), an intervention procedure that closely approximates the manner in which typically developing children acquire language. Great focus on motivational procedure. It was great to see brown bag ideas to teach initiation such as “What’s that?”,  “Where is it?”,  “Help!”.
