Our OT and I often discussed how to improve fine motor skills.
Practice skills often in a structured manner. Don’t give up. Also, utilize alternative tools if helps, but continue practicing the skills!
To make this practice a part of his/her routine, I created OT (Fine Motor) Station. After all, this has been a pretty successful station for some of my kids..who struggle in an area of fine motor skill- like having a hard time holding a pencil, buttoning, or opening and closing a container during lunch time-
The structure looks just like this..after TEACCH..
These tasks does not require reading or math skills!!! Hooray!!
Another way to incorporate the time to practice various fine motor skills into our routine was to build a OT Box (or I call it a “tower”).

Some of the main skills (prior to pencil holding) I am looking at are:
weaving, pinching, peeling, beading, squeezing, picking up things with finger isolation
In the last drawer, we got some putty (with different strengths) and playdoh to stimulate/strengthen the hand/finger grip in a fun way.
