Happy Presidents’ Day!

It’s always fun to teach our students about the history of this special day. It definitely is not an easy concept to teach, but I try to sort out the fun part of the topic and teach it in an engaging way. There are many great read-aloud resources that I can begin the lesson with!

Unfortunately, it was very hard to find something useful for my students in special education classrooms and students with autism. They needed more structured work materials to work on core vocabularies and other concepts with cut-and-paste format rather than writing. Here are free Presidents’ Day worksheets for kindergarten students or learners in special education.

Some of the core words our early learners need to focus are: President, February, Monday, Free, Geroge Washinton, Abraham Lincoln, flag, country, stars, coins, bills, school, etc.

Simple Presidents’ Day worksheets and mini books are great for our students to introduce the core vocabulary and practice simple fine motor skills using this theme. I find this very useful for students with autism who benefit from structured work materials. It will also be a great resource for those who are in the pre-writing stage or non-writers. This can be a simple, easy warm-up, morning work activity with no prep for special education teachers.
