Autism Classroom Reading and Math

Autism classroom often serves students with various skill levels. They often bring unique interests and challenges to the teaching table. For me, any school curriculum has not been so effective with my students. It is frustrating. A year after year, I had to learn new curricula and implemented them with my students to see if they clicked.

After teaching for 10+ years, I am still learning every day.

Then I can not imagine the level of difficulties for our first-year special education teachers. They might have heard these challenges or what. We see and hear the special education teacher shortages. It’s very sad.

For the last decade in a classroom, I learned that a highly structured type of reading and math program may work best for our students with autism and language delays.

As a modified math and reading curriculum for students with autism or language delays, I would suggest using touch math methods and Edmark reading program to many special education teachers. You may end up modifying the modified curriculum to meet each student’s unique needs, but it’s worth looking into them.
