This is another blog post about getting ready for summer school. I have created my own summer school activity ideas and resources for many years for ESY or summer school, I also started to look up what’s available from others’ tool boxes. I do feel grateful and appreciative to see all the free worksheets and ideas.
Here are some great ones for K-2nd grades. I also see the benefit of using them in a special education classroom.
- Summer Writing – Once Upon a Beach
- Summer Write the Room (summer words)
- Summer Activities Math Mystery Pictures
- Summer Sight Word Bingo
- Summer ABC Order
- Summer Word Search Beach Time
- Summer Math Games, Writing, Word Search
- Summer Science Interactive Notebook (Life Cycle of Frog)
- Summer Multiplcation Facts: Color by Number activity (3-5th grade)
My favorite summer school activity ideas and themes have been:
Weather, Seasons, Sun, Butterflies, Calendars, Independence Day, Ocean animals, Animal habitats, Camping, Cooking, etc.
My suggested monthly themes will provide you with ideas what themes and topics are appropriate each month. I have taught special education ESY and summer school for the last 10 summers. Always the challenge is to accommodate and plan for the students at the multi-grade level with different skill levels.
Summer School Activity Ideas for Special Education
These are my suggestions. First, pick the themes and summer school activity ideas for each week (for fun!) and incorporate reading, writing, math, and fun activities (science, cooking, art, and game) each week into the themes. When providing academic tasks, consider their grade and skill levels.
Feel free to include your summer activity ideas to enrich your program this summer! These are my themes and summer school activity ideas this summer!
✅Week 1 Summer fun!
✅Week 2 Camping and outdoor activities
✅Week 3 Ocean Animals & Life Cycle
✅Week 4 Nature & Plant
At the end of the 4 week program, students will receive a little token along with a certificate of completion of ESY and a summer school. Happy Teaching!
