Behavior Strategies in Classroom

When I walked into one of our 2nd grade classes, students were quietly completing their morning work. It was about 15 minutes of a quiet work time and followed by a morning meeting on the carpet. This is my favorite class to go in. ⭐️⭐️

Structuring student’s time is as important as structuring the physical workspace. Small behavior strategies in classroom would make a huge impact on child’s learning.

Within that 15 minutes of independent work time without a mini schedule(structure) to follow, this student of mine would roam around the room to get markers, try talking to his buddy, and make a trip to bathroom. Why not?! No one is breaking the rule.

I saw a big struggle while we were all in the distance learning last school year. Teacher would assign a chunk of time with educational program- supposedly students needed self-pace their learning., which is always the big challenge for our students. Planning is hard. Utilizing the time independently and efficiently is challenge.

This student of mine used a work system as behavior strategies in his class. He will use his time with the online reading and math programs while taking a quick 5-minute break in between- he also has his daily schedule written down and placed right in front of him always.

Believe me- This doesn’t take a lot, but will improve his/her attending and engaging behavior greatly. ✏️📙
