“What comes first?” Teacher asked,
In order to pass and move onto your reading level, one should be able to decode the text with high accuracy and to re-tell details and infer.
Most of my students work on these skills to prepare for this TEST and to support their general understanding of the text. Nevertheless, it seems that they are not interested in many reading materials(especially fiction) and it’s hard for them to mentally visualize the plot in their minds.
For that reason, our learners are relatively stronger when reading non-fiction passages. I know a kid who can read anything about a bat🦇, he will find the coolest facts around his interests and run around sharing with others.
This summer, I thought about Jon a lot- he has mastered some decoding skills (1-2nd grade), however, demonstrates the difficulty in comprehension. In general, it is hard to motivate him to read the non-preferred texts and get him through the context.
Then, I found that he loves playing golf, and he likes to watch PGA golf games during weekends. I decided to make some Reading Comprehension Worksheets for this guy- It is just to make some reading materials intriguing for this child. Only to help this guy realize that reading can be something fun and useful-
