Structured Teaching

Structured Teaching

My class is highly structured physically and visually after TEACCH model.

Yesterday after lunch time, I was so proud of seeing my kids engage in their independent work time(Deskwork) for about 15 minutes.

Each student is assigned to complete 4-5 tasks on their left book(cabinet) shelves. Tasks may include, simple puzzle, addition/subtraction worksheet, matching/sorting objects, file folder games(academics), and so on.

Students are working on:
-mastering/practicing academic and  fine-motor skills

-completing the entire sequence of Deskwork(1-5) independently

-increasing pre-vocational skills

PRINCIPLES OF STRUCTURED TEACCHING:

•  Understanding the culture of autism
•  Developing an individualized person- and family-centered plan for each client or student, rather than using a standard curriculum
•  Structuring the physical environment
•  Using visual supports to make the sequence of daily activities predictable and understandable
•  Using visual supports to make individual tasks understandable
