“6 and half an hour of program” can be organized as Morning and Afternoon times. In the afternoon, after lunch till dismissal, is structured with some independent, pre-vocational task box, and journal writing, clean-up, and free choice.
Journal writing is to provide students with a meaningful way of reflecting their days and writing opportunities.
For some students, IEP goal was written around this daily activity: Given sentence frames and visual cues, Jon will attend to a daily journal writing activity based on his day with 80% accuracy for 4 out of 5 trials as measured by work sample and data collection.
There are 3 different levels of writing templates. Level 1 gives a student several choices in each part of his day. What is it today? What the weather? What did you eat for lunch?…and special activity?

For some of my fluent writers, there will be sentence starters with which give them a frame/structure when organizing their thoughts.
In Level 3, we want them to be independent. There will be some visual cues on top of the paper. Students will follow the visual cues along to complete the piece as they practiced through out Level 1 and 2.
